::Truths of Mommyhood

Truth #1:: LIFE IS MESSY

One thing that really pisses me off about the society that we live in is the unrealistic expectation of how or what our lives should look as moms. I always reassure my new mom friends that it's not a picture perfect Pinterest board like what People Magazine makes it out to be. Of course, if you're Angelina Jolie and have 6 kids and 12 nannies following you around everywhere, then it might be. I'm willing to bet, though, that Miss Joile's house is a pig sty many days, just like my house is. Truthfully, I really only clean house when we are expecting company (fortunately for my house, we typically have guests about every 2-3 weeks). Other than the occasional toilet cleaning crusade, I really don't see the point in stressing over keeping your house clean when it'll be destroyed in a matter of seconds as soon as the kids wake up from their nap.

Right now, it's 12:22pm... my kids are sleeping for the moment, and while they are down, I spent a few minutes cleaning up to show you all proof with before and after pictures...

So in the time that it took me to write this blog post, my boys woke up from their nap. And yes, you guessed it!... My house went from picked up to a disaster in a matter of minutes!

Take Home Point: Deep Breaths... it really doesn't matter what your house looks like when no one's there to see it, right?! As long as your kiddos are fed, healthy, clean and in a safe environment, everything else is secondary. Don't put any unnecessary pressure on yourself to be picture perfect. Life isn't perfect and we shouldn't be expected to be either!

Here is the newest member to my LUSH collection...

::Quickie Post

Boys are napping...

I'm steaming veggies for them...

All of my windows are open...

There's a cool breeze blowing through my house and I love it...

The only sound I hear right now if the clicking of my keyboard...

LIFE IS GOOD!

::Manic Monday

So Mondays are always my least favorite day... it always means the end of a weekend and back to the daily (sometimes boring) grind of my life as a Mom to L & C. It's good to get back to the normalcy of life, but I/we really enjoy the time that we get to spend as a family. Now that we have kids, family time is so much more precious to both the hubs and I.

Anyway, since Mondays are kind of blah, I just wanted to see how you all feel about them...

Spill it!

::A Little Annoyed...

So this could be considered a "vent" post, but I gotta get it out cause it's festering.

I have a BIG problem with people who invite themselves into situations where they weren't invited. I'm talking about parties, holiday celebrations, special occasions (like Superbowl), etc. It really gripes my ass. I think it's so rude, so assuming of them to think they are wanted or welcome for whatever the occasion, and I can't even imagine ever doing that myself. I will never show up to someones home or call them and invite myself over for any occasion without first being invited by them. Even with family members.

I've been a victim of the "self-inviting patrons" many times, and every time it happens, it literally makes me wanna cry. While the "self-inivting patrons" probably don't mean to create a hardship, it puts me (or anyone for that matter) in such an awkward position trying to juggle every one and not hurt anyone's feelings. I'm mean honestly, what is one supposed to say when someone asks if they can come over and spend the day/ holiday/ whatever with you because they don't have anywhere else to go or whatever reason they are alone on that given day? If I say "yes" it changes the dynamics of how the day was intended to go. If I say "no", I'm a heartless bitch. I guess the bottom line for me is basically this: if you didn't receive a call, text, or written invitation, don't assume you are included in the plans of others.

Sigh.... I feel better... kind of....

So please, I beg of you, remember this post next time you feel lonely and want to invite yourself over to crash someone else's plans. While it may not seem like a big deal on the surface, you may very well be causing a boat load of stress for someone else that could easily be avoided.

Happy Monday!

::Sunday, Simply Stated

I love Sundays... lazy day, football, listening to my boys laugh and talk to each other... It's all about spending good, quality time with the ones you love the most! Be sure to take some time today to tell the special people in your life that you love them.

::Monkey See, Monkey Do

My baby boys are 8 months old! I just cannot believe how FAST the time has gone by... I still remember the evening I found out I was pregnant, the day we found out we were having twins, seeing their tiny flickering hearts on the ultrasound, learning that they were boys, the day they were born, and all the amazing firsts that have happened over the last 8 months. While I wished that this would come, I want to keep my precious little guys babies forever.

This evening, my husband was choking on a drink and was coughing from it... my little monkeys both started to fake cough to be like their daddy! Monkey See, Monkey Do! We just adore our precious gifts and soak up everyday with them as they grow and develop.

Thank you, God, for our little miracles!

::I Laughed, I Cried & Now It's Over

So that's it... I'm officially a non-facebooker!

I deleted my account, all of my info and all of my pictures.

It's over...and I feel so liberated!

::Later Facebook...I'm over you!

I have officially decided to leave the Facebook world. I have tossed around the idea before, but with all the new changes and weird privacy (or lack thereof) settings, I'm not too crazy about the idea of other creepers having access to my personal info, pictures, friends, etc. I have nothing against anyone who still chooses to be a part of FB, but it's just not for me anymore.

I remember when I was watching the movie "The Social Network", one of the things that the character Mark Zuckerburg said in reference to the format of Facebook was that he wanted the simplicity of it to be what draws people to their site. Simplicity, it is not, especially now. I feel like as soon as I get used to a new layout or format, they change things up again. Super annoying, so I'm just over the whole thing.

All good things must come to an end, right? Facebook reconnected me with a lot of old friends and co-workers, and has kept me in touch with many for the last few years. For now, though, I'm just going to stick to my family website and my personal blog to keep in touch with people. I figure that I already have too many complicated things in my life, so it's about time I did some house keeping, ya know?

For all of you who occasionally check in with my posts, please "follow" my blog so we can be sure not to lose touch.You can also follow me on Twitter (I'm more of a stalker than a tweeter, but it's still fun to be in the loop) at @katiefermin.

How do you feel about Facebook and other "social networking" sites?
Do you use them, and if so, which ones?
Do you every feel like your life is on display?

::Sunday, Simply Stated

Exhausted is how I feel...
Pumping is what I do many times a day...
Bottles and laundry are what never ends...
Pure love is what I feel for my boys...
Amazing is my husband...
Affirmation is what I need more of these days..
Cool is the breeze I feel gently passing over my feet...
Disaster is how to best describe my house...
Clean, unfolded clothes are what has been resting at the foot of my bed for 2.5 weeks...

But the bottom line is that BLISS is what I feel when I see my precious babies smile...
